Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz has blamed two avoidable first-half goals for the Black Stars collapse in their 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in Tuesdays 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.Ghana took a commanding 2-0 lead at the Accra Sports Stadium but conceded twice before half-time, allowing The Gambia to level the game and change the momentum. This was one of those days when everything went wrong for our team. Especially in the first half after we were leading 2-0. We conceded two goals very easily, and those two goals turned the story of the game around, Queiroz said. The Portuguese coach said the goals affected his players mentally and made it difficult for them to reproduce their first-half performance after the break. At the moment we should have gone for an easy result in the second half; those two goals in the first half killed the morale and made my players nervous. That was one of the reasons we were not able to perform well in the second half, he added. The defeat leaves Ghana without a point from their opening two Group C qualifiers after they also lost 2-0 to Cte dIvoire in Bouak. The Black Stars will now have to regroup ahead of their next qualifying fixtures against Somalia as they look to recover from their difficult start.
